On Sunday 3 December, Boroondara Sports Complex (BSC) partnered with City of Boroondara and Disability Sport & Recreation to celebrate International Day of People with Disability. The event showcased a number of competitive wheelchair sports with the opportunity for members of the community to get involved and have a try.
The day kicked off wheelchair AFL featuring State and National representatives. Wheelchair AFL is an evolving new sport that will be making its home at BSC in 2018.
Based on AFL rules and played on a basketball court, the sport is open to anyone who wants to play and is inclusive of people of all ages, genders and disability levels.
A number of other wheelchair sports were on offer for people to try including wheelchair handball and wheelchair basketball. It was great to see both BSC members and staff, along with City of Boroondara staff give these fun and exciting sports a go.
It was a great celebration for International Day of People with Disability and we are grateful to all those who volunteered to make the day so enjoyable. We look forward to expanding on the event next year and continuing a strong relationship with Disability Sport & Recreation.
